Leif Percival Andersen
President, European Helicobacter Study Group (EHSG)
Leif Percival Andersen is President of the European Helicobacter Study Group (EHSG) and Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Infections Control at Copenhagen University Hospital. Dr Andersen is a member of, among others, the Danish Society of Gastroenterology (DGS), the Danish Society of Clinical Microbiology (DSKM) and the
Scandinavian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (SSAC). He has published more than 100 scientificpapers, mainly on gastrointestinal infections.
Bruce R Bacon MD
Past President, American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD)
Bruce R Bacon, MD, was the President of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) in 2004. Dr Bacon is Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he is also the James F King, MD, Endowed Chair in Gastroenterology, Professor of Internal Medicine. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Liver Foundation as Vice Chair for Medical Affairs and on several editorial boards, and was the Senior Associate Editor for the Liver Disease Section of the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He currently serves as Chair of the Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) Board on Transplant Hepatology.
Carlo Bartolozzi
President, European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR)
Carlo Bartolozzi is President of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) and Professor of Radiology at the University of Pisa. He is also President of the Annual Meeting of ESGAR in Florence for 2005. Dr Bartolozzi is Section Editor of European Radiology and a member of the editorial board of Abdominal Imaging and the International Advisory Board of the Turkish Journal of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. He has published eight monographs and more than 200 papers or chapters. Dr Bartolozzi obtained his medical degree at the University of Padova.

Barbara L Bass MD
President-elect, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT)
Barbara L Bass,MD, is President-elect of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), and Professor of Surgery and Associate Chair for Research and Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She also serves as Director of the Surgical Clinical Care Center of the VA Maryland Health Care Center, and Program Director of the University of Maryland?s general surgery residency program. In addition to her clinical practice,Dr Bass is the principal investigator for a funded laboratory program in gastrointestinal growth regulation. She is widely published, and serves on the editorial boards of several leading surgical journals. She holds leadership positions in numerous surgical societies, including serving as a Director of the American Board of Surgery and as a Regent in the American College of Surgeons.
Horst Dieter Becker
Professor of Surgery, University of Tübingen
Horst Dieter Becker is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Tübingen. From 1991 to 2004, he served as the Acting Director of Surgery there, but he then returned to the role of Professor of Surgery with an empahsis on medical technology. Since 2003, Dr Becker has been President of the German Society of Wound Healing and Wound Management. He is also an honorary member of numerous societies, including the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
James L Boyer MD
Ensign Professor of Medicine and Director, Liver Center,Yale University School of Medicine
James L Boyer, MD, is the Ensign Professor of Medicine and Director of the Liver Center at Yale University School of Medicine. Since 1984, he has been Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)-funded Liver Center at Yale and a National Institute of Environmental Heath Sciences (NIEHS) Center for Membrane Toxicity Studies at the Mt Desert Island Biological Laboratory. He currently serves as Chair, Board of Directors of the American Liver Foundation. He is a member of several associations, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). He is the recipient of distinguished achievement awards from the AASLD among others.
Renzo Caprilli
President, European Crohn?s and Colitis Organization (ECCO)
Renzo Caprilli is President of the European Crohn?s and Colitis Organization (ECCO). He is also Full Professor of Gastroenterology and Chief of the University of Rome, La Sapienza. Dr Caprilli is a member of the the United European Gastroenterology Foundation (UEGF) council and the educational committee of UEGF. His main interest lies in the field of inflammatory bowel diseases. Dr Caprilli?s post-graduate specialisation was within gastroenterology and internal medicine.
Sheila E Crowe MD
Associate Professor, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Virginia
Sheila E Crowe, MD, is an Associate Professor, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Virginia. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and American College of Gastroenterology among others. Dr Crowe has been active in the leadership of the AGA, previously serving as a member of the AGA Research Committee, the AGA Education Committee and as an elected member of the 2004?2005 AGA Nominating Committee. She was recently elected to the position of Chair of the AGA Council. Dr Crowe is on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Physiology: Gastrointestinal and Liver and Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Nancy DeNiro RN, CGRN
President-elect, Society for Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA)
Nancy DeNiro, RN, CGRN, is President-elect of the the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA). She is also Director of Patient Services for the Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology Associates and the Rocky Mountain Endoscopy Centers in Lakewood, Colorado. She is responsible for six GI private practice offices and three ambulatory endoscopy centers in the greater Metro Denver area. She is a member of the Society of International Gastroenterological Nurses and Endoscopy Associates (SIGNEA). She has presented numerous lectures at national and state SGNA educational conferences. In 2001, Ms DeNiro received a Colorado Women?s Leadership Coalition Women Leaders of Excellence Award.
