Harris Bernstein, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the College
of Medicine of the University of Arizona, and a member of the Arizona Cancer Center.
Dr Bernstein’s long-term interest has been in the biological consequences of DNA damage. He has
published on mechanisms of DNA repair and recombination, and DNA damage as the basis of
aging. His current interest is in bile-acid-induced DNA damage and apoptosis in colon and
esophageal cancer. He is a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
and the Genetics Society of America, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.
